Golf has been played in the Gullane area since at least 1650, and the club has three superb courses ready and waiting to wow the visitor. Each of them has its own unique character, and whichever one you choose to play you can be sure of a wonderful experience. Gullane No. 1, the oldest of the three, has hosted Open Championship qualifiers and Scottish Opens for both the men and women.
One of the more intimidating holes on No. 1 is the second, also known, appropriately, as Windygate. It’s difficult despite only having one bunker, in part because the fairway climbs rather steeply to a narrow green. Accuracy is the key, especially if you aren’t a good player out of the rough. On the tee box, take your time, breathe deeply and keep that swing smooth!
Gullane No. 2 and No. 3 are equally impressive, so you may want to include them all on your itinerary. No. 2 runs alongside No. 1 for several holes, while No. 3 has some stunning views across Aberlady Bay. All visitors can also make use of the exceptional practice facilities to be found here, so get ready to hone your skills before savouring an exceptional round of golf.
The area surrounding Gullane is a popular spot for tourists, so you’ll have plenty to explore if you have a day off during your trip. You could choose to head into Edinburgh and explore this historic city, for example, or you may want to stay local and enjoy Gullane Beach, North Berwick and Dunbar. Muirfield, one of the world’s most famous golf clubs, is also close by.
