There are some courses around the world that make you sigh with blissful amazement, and there are just a few that can actually take your breath away. Loch Lomond should always be included in the latter category. It’s an incredible sight, with manicured fairways, a dramatic mountain backdrop and of course many vistas featuring one of the most celebrated lochs in the whole of Scotland and the UK’s largest expanse of water.

Many of the world’s golfing greats have won here, including Colin Montgomerie, Ernie Els, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer. For the average golfer, it represents a stern but fair test, with little in the way of invisible hazards or hidden obstacles. From the tees, what you see is invariably what you get, so you’re able to plot your way around with relative ease. One of the more interesting factors for overseas visitors is that Loch Lomond isn’t a traditional Scottish links track.

Having said that, you need to be accurate with your shot-making if you are to score well. There is water on many holes, and the rough may look a little on the easy side but in truth it isn’t. For most first-time visitors, this is a course that requires the use of every club in the bag. The most important thing to remember is to relax, take in the views and enjoy the game. That’s what golfing in Scotland is all about, after all.

We got the photo from Panmure and it is so good! Definitely going on my office wall!

My boys and I loved Panmure. As we have discussed before, it is exactly the kind of course and club I love to visit when here. While all the trophy courses are wonderful, they do have a bit of commercialism that I like to ignore. None of that at all at Panmure, just pure golf and pure class.

What a fantastic journey at St Andrews. Great city, great atmosphere, 3 great courses. I did not like the castle course the same way. I think that the hotel is THE perfect location because we could walk around, go everywhere without using a car , restaurants and bars were max 5 to 7 minutes, perfect.

I would recommand this to every of my golf friends. That is an experience every golfer should live .
