One of the more northerly Scottish courses and one that has always been seen as something of a hidden gem, Brora is one of those must-play venues that deserve to be on every visitor’s itinerary. And with a front nine that lies snugly on the North Sea coastline you can enjoy the views as much as you enjoy the golf. Many visitors find the greens to be a little difficult to read and, in addition, tend to be on the speedy side, so be sure to concentrate when putting.
Many holes are visually spectacular, and the par-three 9th is one of the best of the lot. Measuring 149 yards from the yellow tee, it’s not overly long, but with the sea just behind the green you have to take note of what the wind is doing. In theory, you could need any one of the clubs in your bag for this, and although the green represents quite a large target, there are two threatening bunkers waiting for a wayward shot.
There’s more than just golf to be enjoyed in this part of the world, too. The unspoilt beaches are perfect for watching wildlife, and many visitors head to the area to see dolphins, minke whales and seals at various times so the year. The city of Inverness is around 60 miles away, and is home to a number of attractions including Inverness Castle and the Botanic Gardens.
