The skills of the architect and the whims of Mother Nature combined to create a fabulous 18-hole course at Panmure back in 1845, making this one of the oldest golf clubs in the world. If you like the sound of tight fairways, tension-filled carries and fast, undulating greens, this is going to be perfect for you. In 1953, the great Ben Hogan played several rounds at Panmure in order to acclimatise for the Open Championship at Carnoustie, where he won what turned out to be his one and only title here.

The second hole is one of the most interesting. A par-five that seems relatively straightforward from the tee, it often plays longer than its yardage because of the varying winds. There’s out of bounds to worry about, and as if that wasn’t enough the fairway gets narrower as you go along. Accuracy, so often a fey word in Scottish links golf, is definitely the order of the day.

Panmure is close to several other excellent golf courses, including Monifieth and Carnoustie, so it can easily be included on a golfing trip to remember. Scotland’s sunniest city, Dundee, is just a few miles away, so there’s plenty to see and do if you have a day away from the links. Be sure to check out the V&A Dundee and the excellent Discovery Point.

Whether you prefer to stay in rural accommodation amid the glorious countryside or in the heart of the city close to all the best bars and restaurants, you’ll be spoilt for choice by the options that await you. As always, the team at Platinum Golf can advise you on the best hotels, B&Bs, cottages and apartments right across the region, so make sure you contact our specialists before making any bookings.

And of course we can do so much more than find accommodation. We can speak to you about the type of courses that match your likes and dislikes, and that are within your budget. We’ll find tee times that fit in with your schedule and we can arrange transportation for you and your friends, too. We can even organise sightseeing trips if you wish.

Platinum Golf Scotland Testimonials

We’re on our way to Edinburgh. Thanks for the kind note, I absolutely loved every minute of it, even when I was in the rough and losing balls! The program you put together was everything we could have expected and your customer service was perfect; thank you for going above and beyond…

J Maia

Stuart and Platinum Golf Scotland provided a terrific itinerary for a spectacular golf and whisky (and, of course, food) experience in Scotland! The checking in, touching base, and above the call of duty service provided during our trip was great! No doubt that they would be a go to for any future travel to the UK. Thanks a bunch for making it an experience of a lifetime!
