Golf Breaks in Ayrshire

In addition to being a wonderfully scenic part of the world, Ayrshire also offers the convenience of being within easy reach of the vibrant metropolis of Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city. Here on the picturesque west coast, there are a number of golf courses that really should be on the must-try list of anyone who’s serious about playing the game in the world’s most iconic places.

And while each venue has its own unique characteristics and personality, the one thing they all have in common is the ability to use the true lie of the land. Undulations, valleys, dunes and of course patches of difficult rough are part of the golfing landscape in Ayrshire, not to mention wind conditions that range daily from the benign to the fierce. Golf really is a proper test in this part of the world.

So which courses will you want to play on your trip to Ayrshire? Presumably the first name on the list will be Royal Troon, a dramatic links course with an out and back layout that features a number of iconic holes. The course can play long in the wind at times, but there are plenty of opportunities to make pars and even birdies if you’re playing well.

Just a 30-minute drive to the south you’ll find the fabulous Turnberry, another Open Championship venue and, to put it simply, one of the finest golf courses in the world. The backdrops alone, with Arran and Ailsa Craig in view, are enough to make the jaw drop, and as if that wasn’t enough you’ll also marvel at the need to play shots over water and across expanses of rock.

Needless to say, there are many more superb venues worthy of further exploration, including the highly-rated Western Gailes, something of a hidden gem for many, but definitely a must-try for golfing purists who want to experience links play at its very best. Another place that’s crying out to be sampled is Prestwick, a beautiful track that was the original home of the Open Championship.

And of course while you’re in the area you’ll no doubt want to see why Ayrshire attracts visitors from across the globe. First and foremost there’s a coastline like no other, as well as inland rural beauty that will take the breath away. Ayr is a wonderful town to visit, with many attractions including the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, the Lang Scots Mile and Greenan Castle. Close by there are a number of idyllic coastal fishing villages that should be on everyone’s itinerary.

Platinum Golf Scotland Testimonials

Marc and I would like to thank you for the beautiful journey you prepared. Everything was well organized, timing, convenience, réservations, etc. All the people we met were so kind to us that we felt just like home. Golf in Scotland is the best place and this east coast is just gorgeous we leave the country with the ambition and hope to be back.

Michel & Marc

It was so nice to meet you and Stuart in person as well.  Clearly you take great interest in your clients’ satisfaction, and it shows.  As we may have mentioned, we had never been to Scotland or the UK and this trip exceeded all of our expectations.  And as lovers of golf, the experience was utterly unforgettable.  Thank you again for the lovely gifts you shared with us upon arrival.

We loved our trip.  If we booked it again tomorrow (we wish we could!) we wouldn’t change a thing except maybe substitute a different hotel for Loch Green.  Thank you for making our “bucket list” trip so special.

Russell & Kelly

Thanks again for a fantastic trip !

We look forward to the next one !

We have had a great time in London too although it’s been a bit overwhelming! What a city!

Keith

Thank you for this wonderful experience and for helping to make this trip a dream come true for all of us. We can’t wait to come back to Scotland!

Vince

Our heartfelt thanks to you and Stuart for the holiday of our dreams and especially for Johannes. It was beyond his expectations (and mine) and we had such a beautiful time together. The true test of Johannes’ love for Scotland was his purchase of an entire kilt outfit with all the bits and bobs, I nearly fainted –I am truly living in Outlander. I almost fell over, we expect our kilts in December or January, and photos will be sent, I promise

I cannot express enough how grateful I am to you both, every detail and every moment was fabulous! We are eating shortbread with proper marmalade and relish our memories.

Hi Lynda & Stuart,

First, back home safe & sound.

From the bottom of my heart, the two of you are absolutely amazing and delightful. But more than that, so capable. A truly glitch less nine days. So fun!

Max

Our Scottish Golf and Whisky experience was wonderful! Thank you for putting together such a fabulous itinerary. Everything was so well thought out and perfectly timed

Basically, you put together a trip we will always remember. Thank you for everything. We would highly recommend you to our friends who are interested in a Scottish golf experience.. Also, thank you for the lovely welcome gifts and taking the time to meet us that Sunday morning at St. Andrews.

When I asked Kevin to describe the trip in one word he said “perfect”, Glynnis said “spectacular” and my word was “awesome”. Pretty simple but the words fit our pictures (almost 1,000) and our memories.

Thank you Lynda and Stewart, the trip was excellent in every way

We got the photo from Panmure and it is so good! Definitely going on my office wall!

My boys and I loved Panmure. As we have discussed before, it is exactly the kind of course and club I love to visit when here. While all the trophy courses are wonderful, they do have a bit of commercialism that I like to ignore. None of that at all at Panmure, just pure golf and pure class.

Thanks for these photos, they are great.

All my best and thanks from my entire family,

David

What a fantastic journey at St Andrews. Great city, great atmosphere, 3 great courses. I did not like the castle course the same way. I think that the hotel is THE perfect location because we could walk around, go everywhere without using a car , restaurants and bars were max 5 to 7 minutes, perfect.

I would recommand this to every of my golf friends. That is an experience every golfer should live .

My friends were very happy about your professionalism and about the courses , the perfect timing, and the gifts.
